Gregory Zabit Obituary

Gregory Zabit, 64, passed away suddenly on February 22nd in Toms River, New Jersey due to medical complications during emergency surgery. 

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, Gregory lived in Durham, Connecticut until he was 18 years old, after graduating from Coginchaug Regional High school. He then moved to New Jersey, where he resided for the remainder of his life.

Gregory worked many jobs throughout his life but spent most of his years employed as a salesman in the fabrication industry. He had a close relationship with God and was a member of the Proving Ground Church in Lakehurst, New Jersey.

During the course of his life, Gregory had many hobbies including fishing, skiing, ice skating, swimming, riding his motorcycle, and going to live music events, but enjoyed making people smile and sharing stories more than anything else.

Gregory is survived by his life partner, Barbara Tarantino; daughters Jacqueline, Skylar, Carrie, and Lynn Zabit; his soon to be grandson; mother Elaine Zabit; sisters, Heidi Zabit and Gretchen Young and her husband, Kenny; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Gregory was predeceased by his father, Thomas Zabit and beloved dog Kira. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026 from 2:30 to 5:30 PM with a Funeral Service to begin at 5:30 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ. Private Cremation to follow.
